Paris in Amsterdam

Art critics are praising the new exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum: Picasso in Paris, 1900-1907, from now until May 29, 2011 (http://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/vgm/index.jsp?page=231144&lang=en), and the inspiration he found in French art, which had a formative influence on his own work. This exhibition, composed in collaboration with the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, revisits the masterpieces of Picasso in Paris.

Visitors can take a bit more Parisian environment and experience a simultaneous exhibition, Stepping Out in Montmartre (http://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/vgm/index.jsp?page=232226&lang=en), where the printing and theaters evoke the atmosphere of 1900 Montmartre, once an enclave for artists such as Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso. For more contemporary art in and around Amsterdam, see:

My Personal Favorites

Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum are less than a 10 minute walk, you can take the canaltour boat in front of the Rijksmuseum
The HeinekenBrewery where you can have a guided tour is only 5 minutes away from the apartment
Don’t miss the Albert Cuyp Market !

Supermarkets

Closest: Jan Steen Straat, just around the corner, turn left where only bikes can go and turn right again!
Bigger: ALBERT HEIJN (AH) CornelisTroostplein 11 or Stadshouderskade 101

Restaurants

This part of town is overflowing with restaurants and bars, some of the better ones (in my honest opinion)
Thai Deum, Thai Food, Ceintuurbaan 210, scrumptious Thai food
Burgermeester, Albert Cuyp Straat, best burger in town! opposite side of the road of the McDonalds
Sari Citra, Ferdinand Bolstraat 52, Indonesian Take Out, Absolutely fabulous, Indonesian food is a must do
Renato’s, Trattoria, Karel du Jardinstraat 32/Van der Helstplein 31 Italian
Bagel and Beans, Ferdinand Bolstraat 70, on the right next to McDonalds, Coffee and Bagels, great lunch
